Building Discrepancy

worksheet

In the beginning stages of motivational interviewing, the clinician attempts to build discrepancy between the client's current behavior and their desired behavior. This can be achieved by highlighting the differences between the current and desired behaviors.

Use this motivational interviewing worksheet as a tool to help increase discrepancy. Help your clients understand how their current drug and alcohol use affects the important areas of their life, and imagine how things might be different if they end their use. Remember to highlight the positive changes that come with sobriety.
