Using Rewards and Punishments

Help parents learn the best practices for using rewards and punishments with their children. The advice in this worksheet comes from years of experience working with parents, and helping them learn to manage their children's (and teenager's) behavior.

The 24 tips in this psychoeducation printout cover topics such as the importance of following through with rewards and punishments, praising good behavior instead of traits, and the importance of not overdoing punishment. Each tip comes with a short explanation of why it's important, and oftentimes an example.

We suggest sharing a copy of this printout with parents who would like to improve their ability to use rewards and punishments. It will serve as a good take-home reminder after a session spent discussing the included topics.
