Relationship Check-In

worksheet

Even the best relationships tend to have things that are going great, and things that could use improvement. Taking a step back and looking at a relationship’s strengths and weaknesses is a powerful exercise that encourages communication and teamwork.

The Relationship Check-In is a brief assessment designed to help couples explore and discuss their relationship. Categories covered in this assessment include:

  • Beliefs and values
  • Communication
  • Family and friends
  • Finances and household
  • Intimacy

In response to short questions, clients will rate how satisfied they are with different aspects of their relationship, and whether they would like to prioritize them for improvement.

After your clients have completed the assessment, use it as an opportunity to practice communication skills, encourage discussion, and chart a course for future therapy sessions. Take special note of areas marked as “priority for improvement.”

It may be helpful for couples to complete this check-in when beginning therapy and after important life events.
